Alys Albers

This piece was created for Digital Graffiti, an art festival where artists project their original works onto the iconic white walls of Alys Beach, Florida. The piece was inspired by Anni and Joseph Albers’ work and experimentations in color and pattern-making. A pictorial study was done of the architecture of Alys Beach via Google Earth and forms were then selected, abstracted, and reduced into simple shapes using pencil and graph paper. Twelve remaining forms were created digitally and then algorithmically randomized using p5.js to generate unique permutations of compositions or studies “exquisite corpse” style, with a color palette inspired by the Albers.
